Randy Thomas Whitehouse
“PERHAPS THEY ARE NOT STARS IN THE SKY, BUT RATHER OPENINGS WHERE OUR LOVED ONES SHINE DOWN TO LET US KNOW THEY ARE HAPPY”
WHITEHOUSE, Randy Thomas – With broken hearts we announce the passing of Randy “BOOTS” Whitehouse at “911” on April 25, 2020 at the age of 67, at home surrounded by the love of his family. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Diane (Jones), “HIS BRIDE” of 46 years on April 20th. Wonderful, loving Dad to our Son Corey and “HIS BRIDE” Tracy and their daughter, Madelyn (her Papa’s pride and joy). Predeceased by his Parents Doris (1978) and Roy (2016), Stepmother Eleanor (2011) and his In-laws Betty (2018) and Ron (1995) Jones. Dear Brother-in-law of Linda (Paul) Nameth and Step-brother of Dan (Leila) Thompson. Survived by many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Randy was a proud retiree of H.W.R.P. serving 30 years, retiring in 2000 and a 10 year seasonal employee of Breyers, Simcoe. Randy loved playing and watching sports. As a youngster he played hockey, baseball, 5-pin bowling and football. People would ask “How did you and Diane meet?”, Randy would answer “Oh I met her in an alley”. After the shocked “OH MY” subsided from the inquirer we would laugh and say that’s “in a bowling alley” as teenagers and we have never been “split” since. Randy developed a love of golf when his future Father-In-Law Ron taught him the game. Many times Randy and Dad would play 18 holes, come home for lunch and then back out for another 18 holes later in the afternoon. After Dad passed, Randy would go up to Southampton to do chores for Mum Betty but they always made time to get a couple of rounds of golf in. He had fun times teaching Corey and myself how to golf (always with patience) Ha! Then teaching Granddaughter Madelyn the game… what special memories he has left with us. A forever Toronto Maple Leaf Fan and Green Bay Packers Fan! There were many beer bets on who was going to win the battle between Dad’s Green Bay Packers and Corey’s Dallas Cowboys. Dad got more beer deliveries than Corey did. GO PACK GO! Or HOW ABOUT THOSE COWBOYS!
Our family would like to thank all our dear friends and neighbours in Port Dover, Hamilton and area for your visits, emails, phone calls, texts (even though Randy was texting challenged – ha), meals, treats, cards, snow removal and rides to the cancer clinic… there’s more… there’s always more with friends and neighbours like ours. We have been so lucky to have your support in our lives during this difficult time and always. To all that helped Randy and I through this difficult journey, we can’t thank you enough for your expertise, advice and kindness… Dr. Brian Lee BGH Oncology & staff, Dr. Richard Packer, LHIN case manager Kim Featherston, Stedman Community Outreach Team Nancy Morbrook and Dr. Martin-Godelie, Dover Apothecary Mike Marini and staff and the CBI Home Health nursing staff, most especially Elana Lloyd. Your gentle care, reassurance, guidance and warmth helped us so much. You are a very special lady Elana!
Due to the COVID-19 virus, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations to Stedman Community Hospice, www.sjlc.ca would be appreciated by the family if you wish to do so. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 519-583-1530, Port Dover. On-line donations and/or condolences can be made at www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca

Bob Pope
POPE. Robert Thomas Charles (Bob)
January 16th, 1939 – April 17th, 2020
After a long period of declining health in his 82nd year, Bob passed away peacefully at Parkview Meadows LTC (Birchtrail) in Townsend. ON.
Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Marjorie (Bowlby). Survived by his wife Doreen, children Robert (Donna), Susan (dec.), Terry (JoAnne), Adam (Andrea), Paul Smith (Angela), Fiona Zawadzki (Alexi). Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Brother of Marion Chadwick (dec.), Mildred Penney (dec.), Doris Campbell (dec.), Jane (John Turnecliff) and Bill (Gloria) and several nephews and nieces.
Bob was a proud member for 34 years with the Hamilton Police Force, joining up in 1959 as a Constable and rising through the ranks to retire in 1993 as Staff Inspector and Commander of station 31 in Dundas. In 1969 he moved to the Identification Branch where two years later he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant for the branch. In 1975 he became the Force Armourer and trained officers in the use of firearms. In 1982, Bob was promoted to Staff Sergeant in the training division where he was in charge of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the explosive disposal unit. This gave him tremendous satisfaction.
Another promotion came in 1986 which made him Inspector for the Regional Force. From 1988 to 1991 he worked as Inspector out of the Kenilworth station where he was promoted once again to Staff Inspector and moved to Hamilton Central. In 1993 when only having a few months at the helm in Dundas he decided to accept an early retirement package courtesy of Bob Rae.
At age 54 he was able to indulge in his hobbies. An avid fisherman, he was often out in his boat on Lake Erie or canoeing the Northern lakes with Doreen. A very talented man with a passion for wood working. His duck decoys and cabinetry were labours of love. He spent several years renovating the family home in Port Dover. He loved to photograph flowers and was always looking for the right specimen. Even though he couldn’t tell a daisy from a dandelion he did become president of the local horticultural society for 2000-02.
A man of few words, compassionate, articulate and didn’t always suffer fools gladly. He will be fondly remembered by many that knew him (well, almost).
The Family wish to thank the wonderful staff at Gardenview for the great care and compassion you bestowed upon Bob.
Arrangements entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home Port Dover, ON (519-583-1530). Online condolences can be made at www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
If desired, donations in memory of Bob can be made to the Alzheimer Society Foundation of Haldimand and Norfolk, Senior Support Services (Norfolk County) or a charity of your choice.

Donna Elaine Phillips
PHILLIPS, Donna Elaine (nee Treitz) February 20th 1946 – April 8, 2020. It is with profound sadness the family wishes to share the peaceful passing of Donna Elaine Phillips (née Treitz) at her home in Port Dover on April 8, 2020, at the age of 74, with her family by her side. Donna was the beloved wife and best friend of Michael J. Phillips Jr. for 52 years.
Donna is the daughter of Charlie and Maureen (née Scott) Treitz of Listowel. She was raised in Listowel ON, on a dairy farm “on the third” as she would say. She was one of the Treitz girls, who would entertain in the community by singing in harmony with her 3 sisters. Donna moved to Kitchener in 1965 and started working at Dominion Life Insurance. It was at this time that she met the love of her life, Mike. They were married July 6, 1968 and together they raised two wonderful children, Laurie and Scott. With the arrival of children, Donna left work to devote her time to her family. While caring for her own children at home, Donna was also a second mom to several other children by being an at-home daycare provider for many years. As a family, Mike, Donna and the kids enjoyed many camping and cottaging adventures. In her mid 30s Donna was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus but this didn’t stop her zest for life or her dedication to caring for her family. She continued to sew and knit and bake fresh bread as long as she could. For a number of years, Mike and Donna owned a cottage in Tobermory they fittingly called “Heron Creek Cottage’’. It was here that Donna liked nothing better than sitting on the deck watching the herons, the deer, the “flutterbies”, and the stunning sunsets. Upon Mike’s retirement they enjoyed traveling together and seeing the world. They visited such places as the Yukon, the Panama Canal, Russia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, the Ukraine and Istanbul, Slovenia, Croatia and Barcelona, Spain. They made several trips to Italy and even “backpacked” through Italy and France for four weeks while in their 60s. Together Donna and Mike also enjoyed the camaraderie of participating in classic car shows, driving around in their 1968 Pontiac GTO while listening to their favourite music of the ’60s and ’70s. Donna will be profoundly missed by her husband Mike, her daughter Laurie with her husband Marcos Kroeker, as well as son Scott and his partner Crystal McNeil. Donna was the cherished grandmother of Isaak and Logan Kroeker as well as Crystal’s son Gavin. Donna will be lovingly remembered by many extended family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Lupus Canada would be appreciated by the family (www.lupuscanada.org/ways-to-donate). Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home, Port Dover, 519-583-1530. On-line donations and or condolences can be made at www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca
