Audrey Smith

SMITH, Audrey Ellen (nee Freeborn) – passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Sunday, March 4th, 2012 in her 81st year. Cherished wife of James “Jim” Smith of Port Dover. Loving mother of Robert (Candy) of Alberta, Deb (Rick) of St. Catharines, Audrey (Russ) of Dunnville, Susan (Nick) of Manitoulin Island, James (Lisa) of Port Dover, Lynn (Blaine) of Toronto, Judy (Greg) of Brantford and John (Sylvia) of Port Dover. Lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Audrey will be sadly missed by her sister Peggy Parker of Kitchener. Predeceased by her parents, the late Jack and Margaret Freeborn. Friends are invited to share their memories of Audrey with her family at the Port Dover Community Centre, 801 St. George St., Port Dover on Sunday, March 11th, 2012 for a memorial gathering from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. A celebration of life service will follow at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in Audrey’s memory are asked to consider the Harmonize for Speech or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Richard Thompson

THOMPSON, Allan “Richard”, of Port Dover, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 27, 2012 in his 58th year. Predeceased by his father Robert in 1996. Dear son of Ada Thompson (Tim Armstrong) of Simcoe. Dear brother to Linda Lindsay (Ed Ireland) of Port Dover, Bob and (Susan) of Simcoe, Diane of Burlington, Margaret (Peggy) Brown (David Armstrong) of Waterford, JoAnne (Rick Skelton) of Kearns, Ontario, David of Simcoe, Judy Ciotti (Dan) of Port Dover, Jamie of Guelph, and Sue Ellen Schneider (Mike) of Waterford. Richard worked at Ivey’s, the Canning Factory, Misner’s Fishery and Sunshine Cleaners at U.S. Steel. Cremation has taken place and a private inurnment service will take place in June at Greenwood Cemetery, Waterford. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home, Port Dover (519-583-1530). Joyce Kirk

KIRK, Joyce (nee Young). On March 9, 2012, at the age of 73 (going on 50), peacefully, surrounded by family, following a 14-month battle with myeloma. Will be deeply missed and forever loved by daughter Brenda (John Lanteigne) of Waterloo and son Wes (Lori-Ann) of Belmont. Loving Nanny to Michael, Matthew and Danielle Lanteigne and Darcy and Brittany Kirk (and Rosie). Survived by her sister Sandra Lawrence (Gary) of Bolsover and in-laws, Audrey Kirk, Jack (Mary) Kirk, June (Andy) Clark, Catherine Kirk. Predeceased by her husband Ron in 1999, and her three brothers Jerry (Marie), Doug (Marie) and Wally (late Joyce). Leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Will be sorely missed by her Meadowgate friends (with whom she shared an “occasional” glass of wine) especially Carol and Sue. An avid Leaf fan, Joyce will be fondly remembered for her love of a good joke (not all of which could be shared with her grandchildren), her Maxine comics, and for playing practical jokes on her friends. Brenda and Wes would like to thank Dr. Walker, Dr Chin Ye, and Dr. Dar for their exceptional care, as well as the staff of C7 Oncology. In Joyce’s memory, please consider donating blood or platelets to help myeloma patients. Darren MacDonald

MacDONALD, Darren Albert, of Port Dover, passed away at the Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in his 42nd year. Cherished son of Albert and Susan MacDonald of Port Dover. Dear grandson of Constance MacDonald of Cedarwood Village, Simcoe. Will be lovingly remembered by his children Marcus and Kenzie, their mother Carianne Walker of Waterford and extended family. Dear brother of Nicole (Darrin) Matthews of Delhi. Dearly loved uncle of Dakota, Tyler and Carter. Will be missed by his special uncle Harry the “Hook”. Fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by his brother Mark William, grandparents Ken and Iva Walker and James Albert MacDonald. Darren was employed as a commercial fisherman on the Ferroclad, he had also worked as a truck driver and a cook. A Memorial Service to celebrate Darren’s life will be held Friday March 10, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Grace United Church (Chapman and St. George Sts.) Port Dover. The Reverend Murray Rounding officiating. Edith Rupert

RUPERT, Edith May. May 5, 1921 – March 7, 2012. Passed away at Heidehof Home for the Aged, St. Catharines, with her loving family by her side in her 91st year. Wife of the late Kenneth Grant Rupert. Edith is survived by her two daughters Anis MacLean, and Wanda Guttin and her husband Mike of St. Catharines, and one son Thomas Rupert and Carrie of Port Dover. Also survived by her eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and her sister Wanda Whent. After cremation, a family interment will take place at Port Dover Cemetery. Bert Borsato

BORSATO, Umberto “Bert” of Simcoe, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in his 57th year. Cherished husband and best friend of Debbie. Loving father of Michael and Erin Rush of London and Lori and Scott McGregor of London. Proud grandfather of Samantha, Isabella and Emma. Dearly loved son of Angelo and Anna of Sudbury and son-in-law of Mary Anne Boudreau of London. Dearest brother and brother-in-law of Mario and Stephanie of Lively, ON., Elizabeth Borsato and David Domino of Pennsylvania and Sylvanna and Fernando Espinosas of Massey, ON. Bert was a retiree from U.S. Steel where he worked for many years. He was a proud grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time, fishing, hockey and making wine were activities he enjoyed, as well as plumbing and heating. Family and friends were invited to share their memories of Bert at visitation at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530) on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Parish prayers at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 19, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church (Lynn Park Rd.) Port Dover. Father Stephen Savel celebrant. WEITMANN, Irmgard (Irma) – Passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2012 at the Norfolk General Hospital in her 91st year, predeceased by her husband Karl (1990). Loving mother of Ingrid Sutherland and her husband Fred, and the late Sonja Atkins (1999) (husband Gary). Cherished daughter of the late Anton and Maria Groinigg of Strassburg, Austria. Much loved grandmother of Kimberley Lakatos (husband George), Tania Atkins (husband Todd), Brian (wife Stacey) and Scott Sutherland (Turks and Caicos). Lucky great-grandmother of Scottie, Rachel, Lauren, Riley, Mitchell and Addison. Special step-grandmother of Chelsea and Spencer. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace United Church, 18 Chapman Street West, Port Dover, Friday, March 23rd, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Please wear Spring colours, as Irma hated funeral black! If so desired, a donation may be made in Irma’s memory to Grace United Church to support their purchase of an elevator for their elderly parishioners.
